Any time you write a list of the “Best” of anything, you are bound to leave out a lot. During my drinking days, I always gravitated toward artists that sang about my favorite pastime, drinking. Here are a few of my favorites:

1.

“Tanque Ray” – by Nick Lowe. Tanqueray is a type of gin. Prior to hearing this song, I had never had gin. After hearing this song, there was always a bottle of Tanqueray in my fridge.
2.

“Hair of the Dog” – by Nazareth. A favorite of mine since it was released in 1975. Crazy, catchy chorus.
3.

“Alcohol” – by Barenaked Ladies. “I love you more than I did the week before. I discovered alcohol.” Great lyrics, sad song.
4.

“Alcohol” – by Brad Paisley. “You’ll have some of the best times you’ll never remember. With me, Alcohol.” For sure.
5.

“Tequila” – by The Champs. Everyone knows this song. Heck, they play it between innings at baseball games. Part of good ol’ American culture.
6.

“Alcohol” – by The Kinks. “Oh demon alcohol. Sad memories I cannot recall. Who thought I would say, damn it all and blow it all.” A sign of things to come for Ray Davies.
7.

“Whiskey in the Jar” – by Thin Lizzy. A favorite in every Irish pub.
8.

“Comfortably Numb” – by Pink Floyd. As much about drugs as it is about alcohol, but you get the picture.
9.

“Demon Alcohol” – by Ozzy Osbourne. “I’m the demon alcohol. Demon alcohol. Let’s party!” Again, a sign of things to come.
10.

“Margaritaville” – by Jimmy Buffett. Another song that represents American culture.
